Gmail has introduced a new upgrade to its spam filters called RETVec, an AI-powered text classification system that can understand "adversarial text manipulations" such as emails filled with special characters, emojis, typos, and junk characters. This upgrade is considered one of the largest defense upgrades in recent years and aims to tackle spam emails that were previously difficult to classify due to the use of homoglyphs and obscure characters that resemble normal Latin alphabet characters.
