A woman in her 80s from Pittsburgh's Elliot neighborhood has died after being hospitalized with West Nile virus, marking the first human case of the virus in Allegheny County this year. The Allegheny County Health Department has set up additional mosquito traps and sprayed affected areas with a non-harmful pesticide. Most people infected with West Nile virus recover on their own, with only a small percentage developing symptoms. Pennsylvania has reported a total of 10 cases of West Nile virus this year. Residents are encouraged to report mosquito breeding sites and seek medical evaluation if they suspect they have the virus.
