Steam on Linux has reached a new high, surpassing 3% market share for October 2025, driven by the success of Steam Deck and Proton, with Linux now at 3.05% overall, marking its best performance in a decade.
The July Steam survey indicates a recovery in Nvidia's RTX 5000 series with increased user share, the debut of AMD's RX 7600 XT in the main GPU chart, and AMD CPUs surpassing 40% market share, reflecting evolving hardware trends among gamers and tech enthusiasts.
The RTX 3060 has surpassed the GTX 1650 to become the top graphics card in Valve's Steam survey, with a 6.27% share. The RTX 3060's high availability on the second-hand market, combined with the expensive prices and weaker performance of the RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti, have contributed to its popularity among gamers. September also saw Windows 10 gaining a larger share over Windows 11, and Intel increasing its CPU market share over AMD.
The latest Steam survey reveals that AMD made gains in both CPUs and GPUs, with the first Radeon RX 7000-series card entering the chart. The RTX 3060 continues to climb in popularity, while the RTX 3070 sits at the top. Surprisingly, the RTX 4060 Ti, despite receiving a low score in reviews, was the third best performer. AMD's processors also saw a rise in market share. In terms of operating systems, Windows 11 is gaining traction while Windows 10 declines. Other notable findings include 8GB VRAM being the most popular, Full HD as the most common resolution, and the Oculus Quest 2 remaining popular among VR headset owners.
The marketshare of AMD CPUs among Linux gamers has reached nearly 70%, according to the latest Steam Survey results for June. This marks a significant increase of 7% compared to the previous month. AMD's popularity among Linux users can be attributed to their open-source driver stack and the growing popularity of their Ryzen CPUs. In contrast, Intel dominates the Windows gaming market with a 68% marketshare. AMD's efforts in developing open-source drivers and expanding their Linux client development have paid off in attracting the Linux gaming community.
The April results of Valve's Steam survey have returned to normal after the unusual changes seen in March, which saw the RTX 3060 take the top spot in the GPU chart. The GTX 1650 is back on top in April, while the RTX 3060 and RTX 2060 saw losses. The absence of the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX from the main GPU table remains unchanged. The changes in March were speculated to be due to more people taking part in the survey, but the reason for the return to normal in April is unclear.
