"Reducing Salt Intake: A Powerful Solution for Lowering Blood Pressure"

A study published in JAMA suggests that reducing sodium intake by just one teaspoon per day can lead to significant improvements in heart health and blood pressure, comparable to the effects of common medications. The study found that even individuals with normal blood pressure at the start of the study saw improvements. Nearly everyone, regardless of whether they are on blood pressure medication or not, could benefit from reducing their sodium intake. The current Dietary Guidelines recommend limiting sodium to 2,300 mg or less per day, while the American Heart Association suggests even less at 1,500 mg per day. Strategies to cut back on salt, such as following the DASH diet, could have a significant impact on global health.
