Major flooding caused by an atmospheric river has forced the closure of Highway 101 between Seaside and Cannon Beach Junction in Oregon. The Cannon Beach Rural Fire Protection District reported flood waters reaching 10 inches, urging caution and advising motorists not to drive through flooded areas. The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Northwest Oregon, including the Oregon Coast, Willamette Valley, and Cascade Foothills.

Isaiah James Thompson, the 18-year-old suspect accused of brutally assaulting a victim, stealing their car, and leading police on a high-speed chase in Seaside, Oregon, has been apprehended after a weekend on the run. Thompson was booked on charges including attempted murder, robbery, and unlawful use of a weapon. The victim, who was hospitalized in critical condition, has since been released. Thompson also faces additional charges in Washington County.

The suspect wanted for attempted murder and vehicle theft in Seaside, Oregon has been identified as 18-year-old Isaiah J. Thompson, who also has ties to Portland. Thompson allegedly stole a Ford Mustang and assaulted the owner before leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in Washington County. He fled the scene on foot, and authorities are conducting a search with the assistance of drones and police dogs. Thompson is also accused of stealing a Toyota Corolla in Multnomah County in April.

Police in Northern California have solved a cold case murder from 1991 after identifying Frank Lewis McClure as the suspected killer through DNA evidence found under the victim's fingernails. Vicki Johnson was strangled, suffocated, and set on fire in Seaside. McClure, who died in 2021, had a history of violence, but the motive for the murder remains unclear. The case was reopened by the Monterey County District Attorney's Office as part of a cold case task force. Seaside police are urging anyone with information on unsolved cold cases to come forward.

Seaside restaurant Maligne has been added to the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list, which recognizes restaurants offering a good quality meal at a reasonable price. Maligne offers French and Italian-American-inspired dishes and is the third Central Coast restaurant to be named to the California Bib Gourmand list.

New research led by Sandra Geiger from the Environmental Psychology Group at the University of Vienna confirms that living near or visiting the seaside is associated with better health regardless of country or personal income. The study surveyed over 15,000 participants across 15 countries and found that everyone seems to benefit from being near the seaside, not just the wealthy. The substantial health benefits of equal and sustainable access to coasts should be considered when countries develop their marine spatial plans, consider future housing needs, and develop public transportation links.
