Zoox has opened a new 220,000-square-foot production facility in Hayward, California, dedicated to the serial manufacturing of purpose-built autonomous robotaxis, capable of producing up to 10,000 vehicles annually, as part of its expansion into commercial robotaxi services in the US.
BETA Technologies has opened its new assembly facility in Vermont, where it is already producing electric aircraft. The 188,500-square-foot facility, located at the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport, will eventually have the capacity to produce up to 300 aircraft per year. BETA's lineup includes the ALIA VTOL (formerly ALIA-250) and the ALIA CTOL (formerly CX300), both of which are undergoing certification for commercial flights. The facility's opening marks an important milestone for BETA as it moves into the production phase of its electric aerospace business.
Talks between Tesla and the Indian government regarding the placement of a production facility in the country have hit potential hurdles related to government policy regarding incentives for manufacturers and consumers. Tesla's previous attempt to enter the Indian market through vehicle imports was halted in 2019 due to high import tariffs. FN America, a gun manufacturer that produces small firearms for the military, is investing $33 million to build a new production facility in Pickens County, South Carolina. The new plant is expected to create 176 jobs and will be completed in 2025. FN America first launched operations in South Carolina in 1981 and plans to break ground on the new facility in 2024.
Kia has announced an all-new production facility for an upcoming commercial vehicle lineup called “purpose-built vehicles,” or PBVs. The Korean automaker will build an all-new commercial electric vehicle plant in South Korea, investing $758 million. The PBVs will be built on the all-new “eS” electric skateboard platform, and it will be produced using a “flexible production method,” allowing for easy transition between variants of the vehicle. Kia will fully launch its PBV lineup in 2025, ahead of the launch of its mass production at the new plant.
Milo's Tea Company has broken ground on a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, which is expected to create over 100 new jobs. The $130 million investment will build a 110,000-square-foot facility, the fourth production facility for Milo's. The company expects to start operations by fall of 2024.
