Florida has recorded over 2,000 COVID-19 related deaths in the first three months of 2024, with one-tenth of them occurring in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. The state's total COVID-19 deaths in 2023 saw a significant decrease compared to the previous years.

St. Petersburg police, along with other law enforcement agencies, arrested 69 people and impounded 23 vehicles in a crackdown on street racing. The operation was conducted after police learned that people were planning to drive "doughnuts" in a parking lot and participate in other dangerous street racing activities. The crackdown comes after a motorcyclist going over 100 mph hit and killed a 13-year-old boy earlier this year. Police arrested both adults and juveniles on felony charges that included fleeing and eluding and child endangerment after parents brought their infant daughter and 3-year-old son to the event.
