Amazon plans to cut up to 30,000 corporate jobs to reduce expenses and address overhiring during pandemic peak demand, marking its largest layoffs since late 2022.
Former employees of tech giants Meta and Salesforce claim they were hired to do nothing as companies embark on a course-correction and lay off extraneous workers during the current economic downturn. Britney Levy, a former employee of Meta, said she was hired to sit around and essentially do nothing, while Derrick McMillen, a former employee of Salesforce, said that just 20% of the employees did 80% of the work while the others did on-site yoga and took long lunches. Experts said that tech firms overhired in order to meet surging demand during the pandemic, resulting in layoffs and a focus on right-sizing and becoming more efficient with budgets.
