"Telecom Bill Modernizes Laws, Boosts Starlink and OneWeb, Attracts Investors, and Enhances User Protection"

The telecom bill in India has disregarded objections from domestic telecom operators, including Reliance Jio, by allowing the allocation of spectrum for satellite communications without auction. The bill proposes the administrative allocation of spectrum to satellite communications companies, meeting the demands of global providers like Elon Musk's Starlink and rejecting the argument for auction-based allocation made by domestic players. This move could benefit Starlink and Airtel-backed OneWeb in expanding their services in India.

SpaceX Successfully Launches Multiple Satellites for OneWeb, Iridium, and Starlink.

SpaceX launched a technology demonstration satellite for OneWeb's second-generation broadband constellation, along with spares for the British firm's current low Earth orbit (LEO) network and another that U.S.-based Iridium Communications operates. OneWeb now has 633 first-generation satellites in LEO, although it only needs 588 to provide global coverage, with the rest serving as in-orbit backups. One of the satellites launched for OneWeb, JoeySat, is designed to test capabilities for a second-generation constellation the company has said could start deployments as soon as 2025.

OneWeb achieves global internet coverage with 618 satellite constellation.

OneWeb, a rival to SpaceX's Starlink, has launched the final batch of satellites needed for its broadband service, taking its total constellation to 618 satellites. The British startup plans to roll out coverage globally and hopes to offer its clients worldwide coverage by the end of the year. OneWeb competes with a range of companies including SpaceX, Amazon, and Inmarsat. Unlike Starlink, which sells broadband packages to consumers, OneWeb says it is targeting enterprise clients.

ISRO successfully launches 36 OneWeb satellites into space.

UK-based company OneWeb is set to launch the final 36 satellites in its space internet network this weekend, taking the in-orbit constellation to over 600. The system will be capable of delivering broadband internet to every corner of the Earth. OneWeb's clients are primarily telecoms companies that provide internet service, and the system will require ground infrastructure to command and control all the satellites and link them to the internet. The company was restored to operations thanks to a joint purchase from the UK government and the Indian conglomerate Bharti Global, who put in half a billion dollars each.
