Japanese astronomer Daichi Fuji captured footage of a meteorite smashing into the moon, creating a likely 'lunar impact flash' and carving a crater into its surface. The shot was taken just after 8.15 pm on February 23 from his home in Hiratsuka, Japan. The object seemed to have fallen near the Ideler L crater, slightly northwest of the Pitiscus crater on the moon. Around 100 ping pong-ball-sized meteoroids hit the moon every day, according to NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office.
