"Bachelor" Star Joey Graziadei's Health Revelation: Gilbert Syndrome and Yellow Eyes

"Bachelor" star Joey Graziadei revealed on social media that he has Gilbert syndrome, a liver condition that causes yellowing of the skin and eyes due to the liver's inability to process bilirubin. This inherited disorder affects 3% to 7% of Americans and can lead to symptoms such as dark-colored urine, fatigue, and loss of appetite. While there is no prevention for Gilbert syndrome, it is generally not a serious health threat and does not require treatment, with symptoms often worsening under certain circumstances such as stress or dehydration.

Bachelor's Joey Graziadei Opens Up About Gilbert Syndrome and "Yellow Eyes"

The Bachelor star Joey Graziadei addressed concerns about his "yellow eyes" on social media by revealing his diagnosis of Gilbert Syndrome, a non-serious condition affecting the liver's processing of bilirubin. He was diagnosed in high school after experiencing illness, and while the syndrome can cause jaundice, he emphasized that he is healthy and manages the condition by staying hydrated, especially during stressful times like being on a TV show.

"Decoding the Mystery: The Scientific Explanation for Yellow Urine"

Researchers at the University of Maryland have identified an enzyme called bilirubin reductase (BilR) that is responsible for converting the orange bilirubin gut compound into the yellow urobilin in the liver, solving the long-standing mystery of what exactly makes urine yellow. This discovery, made possible by advanced genome sequencing technology and the study of gut bacteria, has implications for understanding and treating conditions like jaundice, gallstones, and inflammatory bowel disease.

"Researchers Uncover Enzyme Behind the Mystery of Yellow Urine"

Researchers have identified the enzyme bilirubin reductase, produced by gut bacteria, as the key factor in giving urine its yellow color. This discovery, published in Nature Microbiology, enhances our understanding of how the body processes old red blood cells and the role of the gut microbiome in health conditions like jaundice and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The enzyme converts bilirubin into urobilinogen, which then degrades into the yellow pigment urobilin. The presence of the gene for bilirubin reductase was found in 99.9% of healthy adults but was less prevalent in individuals with IBD and young infants, who are more susceptible to jaundice.

"Enzyme Discovery: The Key to Unlocking the Mystery of Urine's Yellow Color"

Researchers have discovered the enzyme, named bilirubin reductase (BilR), that gut bacteria produce to break down bilirubin, leading to the yellow color of urine. This enzyme is less common in newborns and individuals with inflammatory bowel disease, suggesting a potential link to conditions like jaundice and pigmented gallstones. The study enhances our understanding of the gut microbiome's role in health and could lead to further research on how gut microbes influence bilirubin levels in the blood, particularly in premature infants who are at higher risk for jaundice.

"Researchers Reveal the Science Behind Urine's Yellow Hue"

Scientists at the University of Maryland and National Institutes of Health have identified the enzyme bilirubin reductase, produced by gut microbes, as the key factor in creating the yellow color of urine through the conversion of bilirubin into urobilin. This discovery not only explains a long-standing biological question but also has significant implications for understanding health conditions like jaundice and inflammatory bowel disease, and the broader role of the gut microbiome in human health. The study's findings are published in the journal Nature Microbiology.

"Enzyme Identified as Key Factor in the Yellow Coloration of Urine"

Scientists at the University of Maryland and the National Institutes of Health have identified bilirubin reductase, an enzyme produced by gut microbes, as the key factor in converting bilirubin into urobilin, which gives urine its yellow color. This discovery, published in Nature Microbiology, not only solves a longstanding biological question but also has significant implications for understanding the gut microbiome's influence on conditions like jaundice and inflammatory bowel disease. The presence or absence of bilirubin reductase in individuals could impact health conditions related to bilirubin levels, offering new insights into the gut-liver axis and the overall role of the gut microbiome in human health.

Identifying Pancreatic Cancer: Common Signs and Symptoms.

Pancreatic cancer can cause symptoms such as stomach or back pain, jaundice, diarrhea, nausea, weight loss, and diabetes. However, early in the disease, pancreatic cancer is typically asymptomatic. Most people who have one of these symptoms have a different medical condition and not pancreatic cancer. If concerned about pancreatic cancer, make an appointment to see a healthcare provider right away, especially if you have a family history, weight loss in addition to stomach or back pain, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, or new diabetes.

Texas CPS under fire for taking newborns over jaundice and home births.

A Texas couple is going to court to get their two-week-old baby back from Child Protective Services (CPS) after officials took her following a dispute with their doctor about the infant's jaundice. The couple claims the paperwork erroneously named the baby's mother as another woman, and the documents also referred to Rodney Jackson as the baby's "alleged father." The Jacksons have since visited their baby in the hospital and are expected in court on April 20.
