"Spread of Avian Flu in Michigan Dairy Herds Prompts Concern"

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu) outbreaks have been confirmed in dairy herds across Ionia, Isabella, and Ottawa counties in West Michigan, following the year's first case in Montcalm County. The virus, which has affected over 85 million birds nationwide, is highly contagious and can spread from infected wild birds to other animals. "Commissioner Miller Identifies Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza as Mystery Dairy Cow Disease"

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller confirms that the mystery dairy cow disease in the Texas Panhandle has been identified as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), commonly known as Bird Flu. Three dairies in Texas and one in Kansas have tested positive for HPAI. Avian Flu Outbreak Decimates Sioux County Chicken Population

The Iowa Department of Agriculture has confirmed a case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Sioux County, making it the 11th reported case in Iowa since November and the 17th case this year. The CDC states that HPAI does not pose a public health risk, and it is safe to consume poultry products. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation to provide state resources for tracking, monitoring, containment, and disinfection. Signs of HPAI in birds include increased deaths, lethargy, decreased egg production, and respiratory symptoms. If you suspect your flock may be affected, report it to the Iowa Department of Agriculture.

First case of bird flu confirmed in Lehigh Valley mammal.

The highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in a mammal in the Lehigh Valley for the first time, with the H5N1 strain of the bird flu being found in a red fox collected in Northampton County. Of the 191 detections of highly pathogenic avian influenza in mammals, 42% have been in red foxes. The bird flu has also been found in other mammal species. The red fox that tested positive was an orphaned kit that was admitted to a local wildlife rehabilitation center after it was found alongside dead littermates. Federal agriculture officials recommend not touching or collecting sick or dead animals.

Contagious avian flu discovered in Texas mammal for the first time.

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has been found in a striped skunk in Texas, marking the first time the virus has been detected in the state. HPAI is highly contagious and easily transmittable among wild and domestic birds, as well as certain mammal species. Symptoms include lack of fear of people, sudden death, and other neurological issues. While the risk of transmission to humans is low, basic protective measures should be taken when handling wild animals. Wildlife rehabilitators should also be cautious when intaking animals with clinical signs consistent with HPAI.
