FDA Warns of Hidden Ingredients in Arthritis Drugs Threatening Millions of Americans
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned that arthritis medications taken by up to one in four US adults may contain harmful ingredients that are not listed on their labels. After a 10-year evaluation, the FDA found that 22 over-the-counter arthritis and pain medications purposely contain active ingredients like corticosteroids and muscle relaxants, which can pose serious health risks such as kidney and liver problems. The agency has cautioned that the undisclosed ingredients could interact with other medications and raise the risk of certain health conditions. Many of these affected products have been advertised and sold in retail stores and online marketplaces. The FDA urges consumers to exercise caution and report any adverse effects to its MedWatch reporting program.
