"Strong Thigh Muscles: A Key to Avoiding Knee Replacement Surgery"
Building up the quadriceps muscles in the thighs may reduce the likelihood of needing a total knee replacement, according to a study presented at the Radiological Society of North America. The study found that individuals with larger extensor muscle groups, relative to hamstring muscle groups, had lower odds of requiring knee replacement surgery. The balance between these muscle groups is crucial for protecting the knee joint and preventing the progression of osteoarthritis. The findings suggest that targeted strength training programs focusing on quad strength in relation to the hamstrings could be beneficial in preventing knee replacement surgery.
