"Applebee's Date Night Pass Sells Out in Record Time, Leaving Customers Disappointed"

Applebee's introduced a $200 weekly "date night" pass that sold out within one minute, leaving many customers feeling disappointed and questioning if only a minimal amount of passes were sold. The pass, valid for 52 uses from Feb. 1, 2024, through Jan. 31, 2025, covers up to $30 of food and non-alcoholic beverages per use. Despite the excitement and demand from guests, some customers felt duped and cheated, expressing frustration over the fast sell-out and organizational issues.

Cava files for IPO with plans for expansion.

Mediterranean restaurant chain Cava has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) after seeing a 12.8% rise in revenue in 2022. The company, which models its build-your-own Mediterranean meals after Chipotle's formula, plans to trade on the New York Stock Exchange using the ticker CAVA. While Cava's regulatory filings showed it still is not profitable, its net loss during the 16 weeks ending April 16 was just $2.1 million, narrower than its net loss of $20 million during the year-ago period. The company has 263 locations open as of April 16 and plans to open 34 to 44 new units by the end of the year.

Chipotle sues Sweetgreen over 'chipotle chicken' bowl trademark infringement.

Chipotle has filed a lawsuit against Sweetgreen in California federal court, alleging that the salad chain's new "Chipotle Chicken Burrito Bowl" infringes on its trademark rights. Chipotle claims that the bowl is very similar to its own and is an attempt to capitalize on the Chipotle brand, likely to confuse consumers. Sweetgreen has not commented on the pending litigation. Chipotle has asked the court to block Sweetgreen from using the "Chipotle" name and for an unspecified amount of money damages.
