Astronomers Discover Faintest Galaxy JD1 in Groundbreaking Observation
Astronomers have used the James Webb Space Telescope to confirm the existence of the faintest galaxy known in the early universe. The galaxy, called JD1, was observed when the universe was only 480 million years old. JD1 was discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2014, but its distance could not be confirmed until now. The use of gravitational lensing, where the light from JD1 is bent and amplified by a nearby cluster of galaxies, allowed astronomers to study the galaxy's structure in unprecedented detail. This discovery provides insights into the early stages of galaxy formation and the epoch of reionization.
