Disney's Animal Kingdom Celebrates the Arrival of a Baby African Elephant After 7 Years
Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida celebrated the birth of an African elephant calf, named Corra, marking the first birth of an African elephant at the park in seven years. Weighing 218 pounds at birth, Corra is bonding with her mother, Nadirah, backstage. Nadirah, who was also born at the park, became pregnant through natural breeding and received care from Disney's animal care team throughout her 22-month pregnancy. The birth of Corra is significant as Nadirah is the first second-generation calf at the park. The park follows the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan to ensure responsible breeding of endangered animals in managed care.
