Disney's Animal Kingdom Celebrates the Arrival of a Rare Baby African Elephant

Disney's Animal Kingdom celebrates the birth of a baby African elephant, the first in seven years. The calf, named Corra, weighs 218 pounds and is bonding with her mother, Nadirah. The birth was carefully planned through a breeding program that aims to ensure the responsible breeding of endangered animals in managed care. Nadirah, who was born at Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2005, becomes the first second-generation calf. The calf will be raised with the assistance of adult females in the herd until she reaches independence at around eight years old. Both mother and baby will undergo post-natal exams and bonding before joining the rest of the herd.
