Ohio Supreme Court Upholds Order Blocking Enforcement of Abortion Ban
The Ohio Supreme Court has dismissed the state's challenge to a judge's order that has blocked enforcement of Ohio's near-ban on abortions for the past 14 months. The case now returns to the Hamilton County Common Pleas, where abortion clinics have asked a judge to permanently strike down the law following voters' approval of an amendment enshrining abortion rights in the state constitution. The law, which prohibited most abortions after the first detectable "fetal heartbeat," was briefly in effect after the Roe v. Wade decision was overturned but was later blocked. The clinics argue that the amendment invalidates the state's ban.
