Chemotherapy Tied to Hearing Loss in Cancer Survivors, Study Reveals
A study from the University of South Florida and Indiana University found that the chemotherapy drug cisplatin can cause significant and potentially progressive hearing loss in cancer survivors, particularly those treated for testicular cancer. The research tracked 100 survivors over an average of 14 years, revealing that 78% experienced notable hearing difficulties. Higher doses and pre-existing cardiovascular conditions increased the risk. The study underscores the need for patients to discuss potential hearing loss with healthcare providers and consider regular hearing evaluations during treatment.
