Iowa Dad's Battle with Stage Four Pancreatic Cancer and Access to Life-Saving Chemo
A father-of-two in Iowa with stage four pancreatic cancer was nearly left without his life-saving chemotherapy because of the national drug shortage. Ryan Dwars had been receiving chemotherapy for his cancer since December last year but just two days before his final four rounds of treatment, doctors called to say they did not have enough of the chemotherapy drug left for him. Mr Dwars was using cisplatin, which has been in shortage in the US since February. More than 90 percent of hospitals now have the drug in short supply and are opting for alternatives.
