Study Reveals How Cannabis Compounds Enhance Sleep Quality
Researchers at the University of Sydney have found that cannabinol (CBN), a compound in cannabis, can enhance sleep in rats by extending both non-REM and REM sleep stages. This discovery provides the first objective evidence supporting CBN's sleep-inducing properties, potentially paving the way for new treatments for sleep disorders in humans. The study also revealed that CBN's metabolite, 11-hydroxy-CBN, has a stronger effect on the brain's CB1 receptors, which are crucial for sleep regulation. Human clinical trials are underway to explore CBN's efficacy in treating insomnia.
