"Post-COVID Spike in Cardiovascular Deaths Despite Overall Decline"
A new report from the CDC and Northwestern University reveals an alarming increase in cardiovascular-related deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic, reversing a 10-year downward trend. The span of cardiovascular deaths between 2020 and 2022 exceeded trend expectations by 228,000, with a 9.3% increase compared to an 8.9% decline from 2010 to 2019. Factors such as disrupted healthcare access, delayed treatment for heart issues, lifestyle changes, and a potential link between COVID-19 and increased heart disease risk are believed to have contributed to this concerning uptick. The CDC emphasizes the need to prioritize prevention and management of cardiovascular disease to address this issue.
