Ukraine's Black Sea ports receive influx of cargo ships

Five more cargo ships are en route to Ukrainian sea ports using a newly opened corridor to resume agricultural exports, as an alternative to the blocked Black Sea grain deal with Russia. Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov announced that the vessels, including bulk carriers OLGA, IDA, DANNY BOY, FORZA DORIA, and NEW LEGACY, will export nearly 120,000 metric tons of Ukrainian grain to Africa and Europe. Additionally, three bulk carriers, Azara, Ying Hao 01, and Eneida, have already left Ukrainian ports carrying 127,000 tons of agricultural products and iron ore through a temporary corridor established by the Ukrainian Navy. Russia had closed off the Black Sea ports last year, but they were reopened in July 2022 under a UN and Turkey-brokered deal that Russia later quit, leading to the reimposition of the blockade.

"Russian-installed Head of Donetsk Imposes 5-Hour Curfew and Bans Assemblies"

The Russian-installed head of the Donetsk oblast in Ukraine has imposed a five-hour curfew from 11pm to 4am on weekdays, banning civilians from the streets and public places. Denis Pushilin's decree also prohibits assemblies, rallies, and demonstrations without permission from the local military threat response headquarters. This comes after Pushilin implemented "military censorship" of postal mail and telecommunications. Meanwhile, Ukraine has started using a new naval route to bypass Russia's blockade of its Black Sea ports, with two ships successfully sailing the new route in the past week.

Grain-laden ships en route to Ukraine's Black Sea ports

Two cargo vessels are heading to Ukrainian ports to load grain, becoming the first ships to use a temporary corridor in the Black Sea. This corridor was established by Ukraine to release ships trapped in its ports since the start of the war with Russia and to bypass a de facto blockade. The bulk carriers, "Resilient Africa" and "Aroyat," are transporting almost 20,000 tons of wheat for Africa and Asia. This test of Ukraine's ability to reopen shipping lanes comes as Russia attempts to reimpose its blockade and launches attacks on Ukrainian grain export infrastructure. The Black Sea grain deal, brokered by the UN and Turkey, aims to combat a global food crisis exacerbated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"Timeline of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Day 540 and Beyond"

On day 540 of the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine reported drone attacks on grain silos, while its forces liberated a settlement in the southeast but faced deteriorating conditions in the northeast. Video footage suggested Chechen troops were policing a town near a Russian-occupied nuclear power plant. Russia claimed to have shot down Ukrainian drones and thwarted a Ukrainian sabotage group. Diplomatically, a cargo ship set sail along a new maritime corridor, the US urged Russia to return to the Black Sea Grain Initiative, and Ukraine called for more weapons and the isolation of Russia's leadership. The UK accused Russia of deploying domestically-produced drones based on Iranian models.
