"The Key to Halting Germ Spread: FendX Technologies Reveals Essential Measures"

Despite the emphasis on hand washing and surface disinfection during the COVID-19 pandemic, the spread of viruses and antibiotic resistant bacteria continues to pose a significant threat. FendX Technologies is pioneering the development of nano-coatings that repel bacteria and viruses from surfaces, providing 24/7 protection and potentially reducing their spread. With existing disinfection protocols falling short, nanotechnology may play a crucial role in addressing the challenges posed by antibiotic resistant bacteria and viruses.

The Gut's Role in Antibiotic Resistance: Promoting Superbug Growth

Antibiotics that kill beneficial bacteria in the gut create an environment that promotes the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, according to a study led by Imperial College London. The research found that when antibiotics eliminate beneficial bacteria, pathogenic bacteria can take advantage of the extra nutrients available and thrive. This leads to the formation of a reservoir of disease-causing bacteria. The study aims to develop microbiome therapeutics to restrict the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and restore the gut microbiome after antibiotic treatment. The findings could help improve patient risk assessment and reduce the risk of antibiotic-resistant infections.

The Evolving Threat of Drug-Resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in Recalled Eyedrops

Federal health officials are investigating a multi-state outbreak of a drug-resistant strain of bacteria that has been tied to eye drops. The strain of the antibiotic-resistant bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa that's been detected in the recalled eye drops has never been found in the U.S. before. The recalled brands should be discarded immediately. Patients should continue necessary and prescribed eye treatments, such as those for glaucoma or post-op medications. Symptoms of eye infection include yellow, green or even clear discharge from the eye, eye pain or discomfort, and redness of the eyelid or eye.

Firefighters suffer blindness from contaminated eyedrops.

A fire captain from Naples lost his vision in one eye after using recalled eyedrops that were contaminated with antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The CDC has warned against using EzriCare and Delsam Pharma artificial tears, which have been recalled due to the outbreak. The bacteria has infected 68 people in 16 states, causing three deaths and eight cases of vision loss. The fire captain is suing for negligence and hopes surgery will restore his sight. Symptoms of the infection include pain, discharge, redness, light sensitivity, and blurry vision.

"Shigella: A Growing Concern for Parents of Young Children"

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has warned about an increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria known as shigella, which can cause stomach problems, particularly in children under 5. Shigella can cause bloody diarrhea, fever and stomach pain, among other symptoms, making this an illness no one wants to have. Doctors say there are a lot of other illnesses floating around right now that your child is more likely to get, but it's important to be cautious. Shigella infections are diagnosed with a stool culture and can be treated with oral antibiotics for three to five days.
