VW Commits to 15-Year Support for Android Automotive.

Volkswagen Group's software division, CARIAD, has negotiated a contract with brands to provide lifetime support for Android Automotive in their cars, with a guarantee of updatability on all legal aspects for 15 years after service, and an extra option for brands who would like to have it even longer. CARIAD will provide continued support for brands whose vehicles are considered unicorns and are often collected and can be on the road for many decades. The new E/E architectures are moving away from the old distributed arrangement with dozens of ECUs powered by low-powered and cheap microcontrollers to arrangements with a few domain controllers powered by much more powerful SoCs.
