Catch the Last Supermoon of 2024: The Beaver Moon Rises This Week

The last supermoon of 2024, known as the 'Beaver' moon, will occur this week as the moon reaches its closest point to Earth, or perigee, at about 225,000 miles away. This unofficial astronomical event, which happens up to four times a year, will be visible starting Thursday night, with the full moon peaking on Friday. Visibility may be affected by cloud coverage in certain U.S. states. The 'Beaver' moon is named for the time when beavers take shelter for winter, following October's 'Hunter's' moon.
