Thales Alenia Space and the Italian Space Agency are collaborating to develop a Multi-Purpose Habitat (MPH), a critical component of NASA's Artemis program aimed at establishing a sustainable human presence on the Moon. The lunar base module, expected to be deployed in the 2030s, will serve as a base for Artemis astronauts to conduct experiments and explore the lunar environment. Thales Alenia Space is also working on pressurized modules for the Lunar Gateway, further demonstrating their commitment to lunar exploration. The next step for the MPH project is the Mission Concept Review in early 2024, focusing on developing technologies for extended lunar stays. While the vision of a fully functional lunar city remains unrealized, the MPH represents a significant step towards realizing the dream of lunar bases.
