The footage was taken on the 4,002nd Martian day (sol) using its Hazard-Avoidance Cameras (HazCams), which typically identify potential traversal hazards. Although the rover's team hoped to observe Martian weather phenomena like clouds or dust devils, the videos primarily showcased the rover's shadow moving across the Martian landscape and a view of the valley in the Gale Crater region.
