"Authentic Hues of Uranus and Neptune Unveiled by Astronomers"

UK astronomers have corrected a long-standing misconception about the colors of Neptune and Uranus, revealing that both planets are actually similar shades of greenish-blue, not the rich blue and green previously depicted in images from the 1980s Voyager mission. The earlier images had been color-enhanced to show atmospheric details, leading to the inaccurate representation. The new study, using data from the Hubble Space Telescope and the Very Large Telescope, provides the most accurate color representation of the two ice giants to date, noting that Neptune has a slightly bluer hue due to a thinner haze layer, and Uranus shows seasonal color variations. The findings are published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
