Gaining Insight into Universe Structure through Pinpoint Simulations.

Researchers have used simulations to study the structure of the universe by treating the distribution of galaxies as a collection of points, enabling the application of mathematics developed for materials science to quantify the relative disorder of the universe. The distribution of galaxies in the universe is quite different from the physical properties of conventional materials, having its own unique signature. The universe approaches hyperuniformity on the largest scales, while on smaller scales it becomes almost antihyperuniform and strongly inhomogeneous. This interdisciplinary work has future implications for both cosmology and condensed matter physics.
