Discovery of 1,179 New Star Clusters in Milky Way

Astronomers from Guangzhou University have cataloged over 1,100 new star clusters in the Milky Way using data from the Gaia telescope. The team used AI learning models to sort through the data and visually confirmed each of the 1,179 clusters they found. This study significantly increases the overall total of star clusters in the Milky Way and moves astronomers closer to confirming the theory about the total number of open clusters in the galaxy.
