A salmonella outbreak linked to ground beef has affected at least 16 people, with six hospitalized, in four Northeastern states, including Massachusetts. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that ground beef is the only common food reported in the outbreak, with cases reported in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. The CDC is currently investigating the outbreak, and although no recall has been issued, people who consumed 80% lean ground beef from ShopRite stores in the affected states have reported illnesses. Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration.
