"Endeavour Space Shuttle Prepared for Liftoff at California Science Center"

NASA's retired Space Shuttle Endeavour has been carefully lifted onto a 20-story-tall vertical display, creating the appearance of being ready for launch for the first time in over a decade. This marks the first time such a stacking process has been done outside of a NASA facility. The iconic orbiter is the centerpiece of the future Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, with construction expected to continue for another 18 months to accommodate around 100 more spacecraft displays.

"California Science Center Crews Successfully Position Massive Fuel Tank for Space Shuttle Endeavour Display"

Crews at the California Science Center lifted a massive external fuel tank, known as ET-94, into a vertical position as part of the eventual upright display of the space shuttle Endeavour. The tank, weighing about 65,000 pounds and measuring 154 feet long, was delicately placed between two already-standing solid rocket boosters inside the future Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center. This $400 million project will double the science center's educational exhibit space and is expected to open in the coming months.

"Decade-long Wait Ends as Shuttle Boosters Soar Skyward Again"

The iconic Space Shuttle boosters, which were used to lift the shuttle into orbit, have been stacked in a vertical position at the California Science Center for the first time since the shuttle's retirement. The boosters, weighing 100,000 pounds each, were lifted by a 450-foot crane and will be part of the future Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center. The display will include the Endeavor orbiter and will be the only "ready-for-launch" Space Shuttle system in the world.

Rocket motors for Space Shuttle Endeavour transported through Los Angeles streets for Science Center exhibit

Two massive rocket motors arrived at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, completing their journey from the Mojave Desert. The motors will be part of the vertical display of the Space Shuttle Endeavour at the center's new Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center. The display, which will include the shuttle, rocket boosters, and an external fuel tank, will be the only vertical, launch-ready configuration of a shuttle in the world. Visitors have until the end of December to see the shuttle in its current horizontal position.

"California Science Center Prepares Vertical Display for Space Shuttle Endeavour"

The California Science Center has begun the complex process of displaying NASA's retired Space Shuttle Endeavour in a vertical launch position, complete with external tank and two solid rocket boosters. This highly technical procedure involves hoisting the boosters' bottom segments into the future Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, which is currently under construction. The 20-story-tall display will be supported by base isolators to protect it from earthquakes. Endeavour, which flew 25 missions between 1992 and 2011, will be moved across Exposition Park and intricately mated to the external tank before the construction of the Air and Space Center is completed.
