Elon Musk Warns Chinese EVs Could Overwhelm Competitors Without Trade Barriers

Tesla CEO Elon Musk warns that Chinese car companies, particularly in the electric vehicle sector, are extremely competitive and could dominate the global market without trade barriers. Concerns arise as Tesla loses EV sales volume crown to Chinese brand BYD, leading to slashed prices and potential profitability issues. "Clashing Strikes: Auto Workers and Writers Shake Up US Industries"

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union has called for a historic strike at General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, marking the first simultaneous strike at the Detroit Big Three. The workers are demanding increased salaries and pensions, an end to the tiered wage system, and guarantees for workers at electric vehicle battery plants. The strike, named Stand Up, aims to address inequality and injustice in the industry, with workers fighting to stay in the middle class. The UAW's strategy involves selective strikes at profitable plants, keeping the companies guessing and preserving compensation funds for striking workers. The strike comes amidst a resurgence of union activity in the US, with workers across various sectors demanding better conditions and wages.

EPA to Release Strongest-Ever Vehicle Emissions Rules.

The US Environmental Protection Agency is set to release proposed federal emissions standards for light-duty vehicles that could make up to two-thirds of new passenger vehicles sold in the US electric by 2032. The new greenhouse gas performance standards would start for light-duty vehicles that are model year 2027 and gradually increase through model year 2032. The proposed rules would ensure that 64% to 67% of all new-car sales in the US would be electric vehicles. The EPA’s proposal comes after California air regulators voted last year to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035 and set interim targets to phase these cars out.
