NHC monitoring disturbance in northeast Atlantic.

The National Hurricane Center has identified an area of disorganized storms in the Atlantic Ocean between the Azores and the Canary Islands, with a 10% chance of development in the next two days and a 10% chance in the next seven days. The system could develop subtropical characteristics in the next couple of days, but is expected to move northeastward over cooler waters by late in the week, ending its chances of subtropical development. Tropical Storm Arlene dissipated over the weekend, marking the first named storm of the season.

Tropical Storm Arlene weakened into a remnant low over the Gulf of Mexico, with winds dropping below 40 mph. The storm never threatened land and no watches or warnings were issued for the Florida Peninsula. Abundant moisture supplied by Tropical Storm Arlene in the Gulf of Mexico will allow for numerous storms to develop in Central Florida on Saturday afternoon, with the highest storm chances and heaviest rain around the Orlando area and west toward Interstate 75. Rain chances are at 60% on Saturday and 40% on Sunday. The rip current risk remains high along the Atlantic beaches. Tropical Storm Arlene remains weak in the Gulf of Mexico and is no direct threat to Florida.

Tropical Storm Arlene has become the first named storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season in the Gulf of Mexico. It is not expected to directly impact any landmasses as an organized system, but what is left of the cyclone could impact western Cuba by Sunday. Arlene's track is expected to keep the storm offshore with no direct U.S. impacts, but occasional surges of moisture could impact counties well south of Interstate 4 in Florida. The National Weather Service office in Miami has issued Flood Watches for Miami-Dade, up to West Palm Beach and around Lake Okeechobee due to several days of rain in Florida before the formation of Arlene.
