A new finger-prick test can diagnose trichomoniasis, one of the world's most common STIs, in just five minutes. The infection, caused by a parasite, often goes undetected because 70% of cases are asymptomatic. The test can detect an antibody specific to the infection from just one drop of blood and costs less than $20 to develop. Once diagnosed, trichomoniasis is easily cured with antibiotics. The at-home finger-prick test identifies an antibody produced by both men and women when infected, so can diagnose both sexes.
