Talking Therapies May Lower Risk of Cardiovascular Disease.

A study published in the European Heart Journal found that psychological therapy for depression is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. The study included 636,955 adults over 45 years old with depression who had completed a course of psychological therapy and did not have cardiovascular disease or dementia. Improvement in depression was associated with a 12-19% lower risk of cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease, stroke, and all-cause mortality. The findings suggest that improving mental health could also help physical health, especially in those aged under 60.
