Isaac Childres, the designer of the popular board game Gloomhaven, is now creating a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) based on the combat mechanics of Gloomhaven. The TTRPG, called Gloomhaven: The Role Playing Game, is currently being crowdfunded and is expected to ship in July 2024. The game aims to provide an RPG-like experience without the need for a game master, featuring a big open world, combat scenarios, and character interactions. The RPG will use the rules of Gloomhaven: Second Edition and will include new mechanics to fit the flow of an RPG. The core book and deluxe set are available for pre-order.

The final result lacks the coherence of organically grown fantasy epics, but the film is yet another example of the appeal of parasocial fantasy.
