Harnessing Cancer's Superpower: Engineering Potent T Cells to Kill Tumors
Scientists from UC San Francisco and Northwestern University have developed a new T-cell therapy, called "Judo T-cell therapy," by inserting a mutation found in cancer cells into CAR-T cells, making them 100 times more potent against solid tumors in mice. The researchers have founded a startup, Moonlight Bio, to continue development of this therapy, with lung cancer as their first target for clinical trials within a few years. While concerns about potential risks remain, the team is optimistic about the potential of this approach and plans to continue refining it.
