New Wearable Measures Blood Flow in Ear

Stat Health has developed a tiny wearable called Stat that fits in the upper ear and uses an infrared optical sensor to measure blood flow, helping wearers understand bouts of dizziness, fainting, headaches, and fatigue that occur right after standing up. The device is designed to help people with illnesses including Long COVID, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), and other syndromes that are affected simply by the act of standing up. The Stat in-ear wearable is powered by a solar panel, which means in some circumstances, it’ll never need to be removed and recharged at all. The device is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2024 and will be subscription-based.

Revolutionary in-ear device predicts fainting and explains dizziness.

STAT Health has developed a new in-ear wearable device called STAT that measures blood flow to the head and tracks changes in heart rate, blood pressure, and blood flow when users stand up. The device can help people better understand why they're experiencing symptoms like dizziness, fainting, and brain fog, which are common in patients with illnesses like long Covid and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. The device is not diagnostic or a form of treatment, but it can serve as a resource for patients who are often told their symptoms are not real. The STAT wearable is small, comfortable, and compatible with most other devices like headphones or glasses that sit in or around the ear. The company is targeting a $50 a month subscription for its device.
