The FBI has ended its partnership with the Southern Poverty Law Center, citing concerns over the organization's partisan activities and its hate map, amidst broader shifts in civil rights protections under the Trump administration, including reduced funding for hate crime prevention and increased framing of protections as discriminatory against white people.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has listed Moms for Liberty, a Republican-connected "parents' rights" group, as an "anti-government extremist" organization in its latest Year in Hate & Extremism report. The group opposes teaching about racism, racist history, and LGBTQ+-inclusive policies in public schools and has sought to land members and supporters on school board seats. The SPLC report also warns that hate groups are increasingly targeting schools, with established hate groups like the Proud Boys joining radical parents' groups in attacking public education.
