"NASA's Enhanced Snake Robot to Seek Life on Saturn's Moon"
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has developed a snake robot, Exobiology Extant Life Surveyor (EELS), designed to explore the icy oceans of Saturn's moon, Enceladus, in search of extraterrestrial life. The robot, equipped with redundancy and the ability to navigate tight spaces, is being tested on Earth to mimic the conditions it may encounter on Enceladus. Collaborating with several universities, including Carnegie Mellon, the robot could potentially navigate narrow geysers on the moon's surface and swim through its vast ocean, estimated to be six miles deep at the south pole.
