Mya Lesnar, daughter of WWE star Brock Lesnar, won the NCAA outdoor shot put national title with a throw of 19.01 meters, maintaining an undefeated outdoor season and ranking No. 7 globally.
Ryan Crouser successfully defended his shot put world title and came close to breaking his own world record, despite recently discovering two blood clots in his left leg. Crouser, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, received medical clearance to compete and threw 23.51 meters on his last attempt, the second-best throw in history. He became the first man to win four combined Olympic and world outdoor shot put titles. In other events, Gudaf Tsegay led an Ethiopian sweep in the women's 10,000m after Olympic champion Sifan Hassan fell while leading in the last straightaway.
Jolien Boumkwo, a shot-putter from Belgium, made her debut in the 100-meter hurdles at the European Team Championships in Krakow, Poland, after her team's two hurdlers were injured. Boumkwo, who regularly competes in strength events, took her time and finished the race in 32.81 seconds, last in her heat. Her goal was to finish without injury and help her team avoid disqualification. Despite her efforts, Belgium finished 14th in the team standings and was demoted to Division 2.
Ryan Crouser, the best shot putter in history, broke his own world record at the Los Angeles Grand Prix with a new technique he calls the "step-across" or the "Crouser slide." The technique involves starting his spin a little farther to the right, making his first step wider and adding a new step into his approach. Crouser's throw of 77 feet, 3¾ inches is about seven inches farther than his previous world record. Crouser spends an entire year of training to peak for around 10 days, timed around major meets, so such a big throw, so early in the schedule, could bode well for big things leading into July’s U.S. championships and August’s world championship, where Crouser will attempt to defend his title from last year.

Several high-profile athletes once billed to compete Saturday pulled out in the days and weeks beforehand, including Sha'Carri Richardson, who withdrew due to cramping.
