
Shot-putter saves Belgium from disqualification by running hurdles.
Jolien Boumkwo, a shot-putter from Belgium, made her debut in the 100-meter hurdles at the European Team Championships in Krakow, Poland, after her team's two hurdlers were injured. Boumkwo, who regularly competes in strength events, took her time and finished the race in 32.81 seconds, last in her heat. Her goal was to finish without injury and help her team avoid disqualification. Despite her efforts, Belgium finished 14th in the team standings and was demoted to Division 2.
