Brave Rescuers Battle Blizzard to Save Trapped Drivers in Eastern Europe
Rescue crews in Eastern Europe are battling blizzard conditions as a winter storm brings near-zero visibility to parts of Romania and Ukraine. The Romanian National Meteorological Administration issued weather warnings for the eastern half of the country, with firefighters working to clear snow-covered roads in gusty blizzard conditions. Drivers were warned to stay off the roads or prepare for travel in blizzard conditions. The storm system also caused a freighter vessel to sink off the Greek island of Lesbos. In Ukraine, heavy sleet, rain, and increasing snow cover are forecast, with crews rescuing trapped drivers and deploying resources to clear roads and restore power.
