Axiom crews equipped with custom Fisher space pens for private missions.

Fisher Space Pen has partnered with Axiom Space to provide custom space pens for private space missions, including the upcoming Ax-2 mission. The partnership will extend beyond Ax-2 to Axiom's continuing private missions, including launches to its commercial space station under development. Peggy Whitson and her crewmates on the Ax-2 mission will be the first to use Axiom-branded Fisher space pens. The black titanium nitride Astronaut Space Pen, identical to the type Whitson and her crewmates will use, is now for sale from Fisher's website for $118 each.

College students set to make history with shoebox-sized rover on the moon

A group of around 300 college students from Carnegie Mellon University have built a shoebox-sized lunar rover called Iris, which will be the first privately-made American robot to explore the surface of the moon. Iris will be launched in May and will spend 50 hours on the moon's surface before running out of battery. The project cost around $800,000 and was funded partly by CMU while the rest came from private donors and crowdsourced fundraisers. The rover has two cameras that will help it capture images of dust on the moon's surface.
