Private Ax-2 astronauts return to Earth in SpaceX Dragon.

The four private astronauts of the Ax-2 mission are set to return to Earth today, May 30, with an ocean splashdown scheduled for 11:02 p.m. EDT. The mission, operated by Axiom Space, launched on May 21 and arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) a day later. The private mission is commanded by former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, and the other crewmates are paying customer John Shoffner and Ali Alqarni and Rayyanah Barnawi, both of whom are members of Saudi Arabia's first astronaut class.

Axiom crews equipped with custom Fisher space pens for private missions.

Fisher Space Pen has partnered with Axiom Space to provide custom space pens for private space missions, including the upcoming Ax-2 mission. The partnership will extend beyond Ax-2 to Axiom's continuing private missions, including launches to its commercial space station under development. Peggy Whitson and her crewmates on the Ax-2 mission will be the first to use Axiom-branded Fisher space pens. The black titanium nitride Astronaut Space Pen, identical to the type Whitson and her crewmates will use, is now for sale from Fisher's website for $118 each.

Axiom Space's Ax-2: Meet the Crew and Prepare for Launch

Axiom Space is preparing for its second astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS), known as Ax-2. The international crew of four will launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and spend roughly 10 days conducting independent research and technology demonstrations. Axiom's first mission to the ISS, Ax-1, launched just over a year ago, and Ax-3 is currently scheduled for the end of this year. Axiom is also among a number of commercial entities that aim to build a private space station in low Earth orbit (LEO) for research, manufacturing, and tourism.
