Memphis Voters Elect New Decision-Makers for Mayor and City Council

The recent Memphis mayoral election saw a turnout of only 23.77% of eligible voters, with the majority of votes cast in precincts along the Poplar corridor in East Memphis and the Midtown precinct encompassing Central Gardens and Cooper-Young. Paul Young claimed victory with strong support in Midtown, Downtown, and the University areas, while Floyd Bonner dominated East Memphis. Willie Herenton's support came from South and Southwest Memphis, Whitehaven, and areas south of I-240, while Van Turner had hotspots of support in South and North Memphis, as well as Hickory Hill.
