Revised Saltwater Impact Timeline: Preparing for Crisis in South Louisiana

The US Army Corps of Engineers has released a new timeline projecting the impact of saltwater intrusion in Louisiana. The saltwater wedge is now expected to reach Algiers and Gretna later than originally anticipated, with dates pushed back from late October to late November. However, three treatment plants in Orleans and Jefferson parishes may not feel any impacts of saltwater intrusion through November. Thousands of Uptown residents in New Orleans were left without power on Friday morning, with over 11,000 Entergy customers in Orleans Parish affected. The majority of those impacted are concentrated in the Uptown area near Audubon Park, with other significant outages reported in Broadmoor and Central City. Entergy crews are on site working to restore power, and full restoration is expected by 10 a.m. The cause of the outages remains unclear.
